Roles & Responsibilities

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan and lead the implementation of HSBCs Employee Relations & Policy initiatives within Singapore to support strategic business imperatives of the Bank
  • Lead/manage delivery of ER & policy service/support for HR teams, businesses and functions within Singapore providing ER & Policy guidance and oversight to Country Heads of HR/ER as needed
  • Proactive oversight/management of employee grievances, personal conduct, whistleblowing cases and executive escalations in line with HSBC protocols
  • Close liaison and engagement with internal stakeholders across Singapore and within ASP region and play an active role in the ASP/Global ER & Policy leadership team
  • Provide education and awareness to Singapore HR colleagues and line managers on ER matters, striving for consistency and sharing of best practice
  • Strive to deliver consistency and fit for purpose ER policies and initiatives which are compliant with local labor laws, regulations and Group guidelines
  • Create and oversee governance, controls and monitoring mechanisms to identify and monitor trends and themes to identify proactive actions to be taken to enhance awareness and prevent future issues arising
  • Partner and provide advice and expertise for transformation projects e.g. acquisitions, reorganization and restructuring
  • Work in partnership with Employment Legal and external counsel to manage and/or oversee employment related litigation
  • Promote effective employee/employer partnership, including union relationships, to foster a positive work environment
  • Develop Singapore Industrial Relations strategy, aligned with Group IR strategy to ensure proactive engagement and positive relationships are maintained
  • Requirements

  • Management education in ER/IR, organizational psychology, business management, employment law or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in a senior ER/HRBP/Legal role at a management level in a large scale multi-national and commercial environment ideally in Singapore
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels, strong communications skills and ability to navigate and influence across the organizational matrix
  • Strategic agility sees ahead, connects dots, can anticipate consequences and trends impacting the ER landscape and tactical execution knows how to get things done with and through others; and operational excellence
  • Good analytical, problem solving and decision making skills combined with influencing and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure within demanding and changing timescales and deadlines
  • Strong understanding of the principles of employee relations
  • Strict adherence to the requirements of confidentiality, discretion and integrity
  • Employment legal qualification or training would be an advantage
  • Ability to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and develop capability
  • Makes good decisions based on a mix of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment; sought out by others for advice; operates with integrity and trust
  • Demonstrates positive and collaborative values and behaviors ensuring they are reflected across all people delivery touch points.
