Position Objectives:

  • The primary function of the Human Resources Department is to support the middle pillar of the Australian International Schools strategic plan to invest in our people and be a great place to work
  • The Director of Human Resources provides leadership and influence of the people management agenda at the Australian International School. The Director of Human Resources is a member of the leadership team who actively supports discussions and leverages best practices ensuring key projects are led and delivered, as well as ensuring core HR practices are promptly, accurately and legally delivered.
  • Responsibilities:

    Leadership

  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with the leadership team, management and key stakeholders
  • Represent HR at the School leadership table while becoming a trusted partner and advisor to members of the leadership team and management
  • Partner with other School HR staff, Cognita HR staff and specialists in initiating and improving the effective delivery of HR services and processes for the School while integrating and sharing best practices
  • Develop HR team members - manage, coach and mentor the HR team ensuring effective and accurate delivery of the Schools HR services including compliance with data protection regulations
  • Organisational and Employee Development

  • Support the Head of School and Managing Director Operations with performance improvement agendas and provoke positive changes in relation to people management
  • Support the leadership team with cultural changes across the School through a variety of different methods including implementing plans following Staff Surveys, enhancing the skills of leaders and managers in order to improve their overall leadership effectiveness, providing tools and up-skilling managers to take on greater responsibility for their staff
  • Drive the implementation of HR initiatives in support of short and long term goals by building partnerships and alliances throughout the School and organisation
  • Actively identify gaps, propose and implement changes necessary to cover risks and improve practices; review and challenge the organisational structure and propose changes
  • Capture learning and development needs and recommend appropriate interventions
  • Promote the use of HR systems such as CognitaPeople, educate staff on HR policies and procedures, challenging appropriately as necessary
  • Talent Management

  • Support the Head of School, Managing Director - Operations and Cognita in recruiting key talents
  • Work in collaboration with the Head of School, Managing Director - Operations and Cognita to design succession plans for key talents and job positions
  • Champion and support managers with performance reviews, salary reviews and work with the leadership team and Cognita HR to ensure salary revisions are aligned within roles and policies
  • Employee Relations

  • Ensure policies are in place and staff are aware of appropriate procedures in raising and handling grievances
  • Guide and influence staff, management and the leadership team on grievance matters to ensure effective and compliant solutions
  • Responsible for dealing with workplace conflicts and grievances through effective mediation, and conducting investigations as necessary

  • Compliance & Projects

  • Provide staff, management and the leadership team with guidance and interpretation of policies, practices and labour regulations
  • Manage HR projects cross-functionally ensuring effective communication, change management and project management
  • Management and implementation of staff surveys, data analysis, benchmarking year on year and in collaboration with the school leadership team, produce action plans to address areas of concern
  • Act as the HR lead for all matters associated with Safeguarding at the School and other compliance matters.
  • Remuneration & Benefits

  • Oversee the monthly payroll processing with the outsourced vendor.
  • Manage the annual contract review for academic employees.
  • Manage the overall HR budgeting and resource planning exercise with the school leadership team including staff, training and recruitment costs and headcount management
  • Lead and support management with performance reviews, salary reviews and work with the leadership team and Cognita HR to ensure salary revisions are aligned within roles and policies

  • High level exposure and experience in using HRIS systems
  • Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience as a HR generalist in the Asia Pacific region
  • Supervisory experience
  • Degree in HR related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a school environment is an advantage
