CEO INTERVIEW - CVViZ: Online Recruitment Software That Uses AI To Help Recruiters Hire Best Talent, Faster


An interview with: Amit Gawande




1. Please share with us briefly what you do.

I am the co-founder and CEO of CVViZ - ​​an AI-powered cloud-based online recruitment software solution for talent acquisition. I take care of Product Management and Digital Marketing. And when I find time, I go back to coding!



2. What were you doing before this? 

I was working as VP, Global Technology, JP Morgan. I was responsible for Data engineering and information architecture.


3. Describe your product. How does it work?

CVViZ streamlines your hiring process from job listing to job offer. It is modern recruiting software that uses various technologies such as AI, integrations to intelligently automate mundane recruiting tasks. When you add a new job listing, CVViZ broadcasts it to multiple job boards, social media platforms, career sites, etc. We are integrated with 2000+ job boards worldwide.

For every job, you can configure multiple pre-screening questions which can be used to check the basic criteria of candidates. Once you start receiving the resumes, our AI matching engine automatically screens resume and help you identify the most relevant candidates. Later on, you can conduct interviews, track feedback, collaborate with hiring managers, recruiters, recruitment agencies, etc., and hire the best talent.

CVViZ can automatically source hidden candidates on niche platforms. For example, if you want to hire a top programmer you may want to check platforms like GitHub, Stack Overflow, etc. Also, every time you post a new requirement, CVViZ automatically screens your existing talent pool to find the best candidates.


4. What are the key benefits?

CVViZ helps you hire the right candidates, faster. Be it candidate sourcing, resume screening, or engaging candidates, CVViZ smartly automates recruiting tasks so that recruiters and hiring managers can spend time engaging and talking to the right candidates.


5. Who are your closest competitors?

Traditional ATSs, Recruitment CRMs are our competitors.


6. Who is your first customer and how did that happen? What were they using before this, and why? did they switch?

We competed for an Accelerator Program organized by a French Bank. They have 150,000 employees worldwide. And we were shortlisted to work with them on the problem of matching the right candidates with the right opportunities.

We not only solved the problem of external hiring but our algorithm also helped them solve the problem of internal mobility. We also received special recognition for that. And we were the only start-up to receive any such recognition.


7. What motivated you to start this business?

I always loved problem-solving. While expanding teams for JP Morgan, I used to do a lot of hiring and that’s when I had first-hand experience with the challenges in the hiring process. And it was an interesting problem to solve.

When I discussed these challenges with many colleagues and friends in different organizations, I realized the scale of this problem was huge!


8. What is your biggest sacrifice to make this work?

You have to make sacrifices. Leaving the comfort of monthly paychecks :), the lifestyle, financial security. Walking into the unknown. But that’s also the interesting part!


9. How did you get funded?

We are bootstrapped. And we decided to continue that way till we figure out how we want to scale and what kind of customers and geographies we want to expand into. While doing so we generated enough revenue that helped us to survive and to grow as well. We have now customers from more than 25 countries.


10. What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Content, Digital marketing, Business partnerships.


11. Describe a typical workday?

Get up. Get some exercise. Spend time with my daughter. Start work and then it goes on. As we support multiple geographies sometimes schedules get crazy :)


12. What has been your proudest moment in the history of your business and why?

It was when our beta user (a 40 people recruitment agency) tried our AI Resume screening algorithm for a position they recently closed. They uploaded almost 2000 resumes for a Java developer job position. And then CVViZ did the resume screening, matching, and the ranking - The resume that came on top was the actual hire for that position. That was the proudest moment!! And then it happened again, and again, and again :)


13. If you could go back in time to speak to your 20-year-old self, what would you tell him/her?

I am still trying to figure it out.
