Please share with us briefly what you do.

I am the Founder and CEO of X0PA AI, an AI tech startup which specializes in talent hiring and retention.

 

What were you doing before this?

This Is my second venture, the previous was a global executive search company which had operations across 5 countries and I ran that for over 20years.

 

Describe your product. How does it work?

The platform helps client hire, engage and retain talent. It has an AI sourcer to source candidates and it uses AI algorithms to score and rank candidates based on their suitability to the role and the hiring company, it uses predictive analytics to predict their loyalty and performance in the role in question.

     

 

What are the key benefits?

The platform helps clients optimize the 6 KPIs of hiring namely cost of hire, time to hire, quality of hire, diversity of hiring, retention of the hires and employer branding.

     

 

Who are your closest competitors?

Some of the companies include Pulsify, Eightfold and on a certain level, we do compete with Linkedin.

 

Who is your first customer and how did that happen? What were they using before this, and why did they switch?

Our first client is a global and multi-billion dollar tech company. They had a demo and trial of the product and decided to swap the current system that they used for hiring and replace it with X0PA. They realized that our platform brings consistency across their recruitment team, transparency and significantly enhances productivity.

 

What motivated you to start this business?

I am an electronics engineer and quite a geek at heart. Having run an executive search firm for over 2 decades I thought it would be great to disrupt my own business and use technology to innovate and transform this space.

 

What is your biggest sacrifice to make this work?

I have bootstrapped the business and put in a lot of my personal savings to fund this venture.

 

How did you get funded?

Initially it was bootstrapped by me, subsequently, we won a $500k funding from Singapore Government and then we raised a seed round in Jan 2019.

 

What has been your most successful form of marketing?

Participating and exhibiting at trade shows and targeted events have been very effective.

 

Describe a typical workday

I usually start work very early in the morning especially when I am working from London to overlap at least a few working hours for APAC. And then run through my conference calls and client meetings. I like to work at least one day per week from home as it gives me time away from tactical work and “thinking “ time.

 

Who has been the greatest influence in your business and why?

My husband. He is the biggest supporter as well as my biggest critic. Additionally, he also participated in the Seed round funding that we raised in Jan this year.

 

What is your favourite business failure (and what did you learn from it)?

We initially came with a version of the platform called Enterprise and this was supposed to use predictive analytics for companies to gauge their talent health and predict parameters such as attrition, performance, diversity, etc. We realized that companies were not ready for this and it was perhaps too early in AI/ Predictive analytics for companies to trust. We quickly pivoted to our AI recruiter which was a smart move.

 

If you could go back in time to speak to your 20-year-old self, what would you tell him/her?

I would perhaps do more financial training as I realize my 20year old self was great at generating sales and revenue but didn’t have strong fiscal and budget management skills.

 

What’s one productivity hack you can’t live without?

My mantra is” Everything can be automated” so if there is a manual process in my work mode I need to find a smart solution for it and this has also been perhaps the driver which created our current platform.
