Looking for employment overseas can be hard to navigate. You need to know the requirements, get through truck loads of paperwork and still get nowhere.


Speaking with people helps but trying to isolate the accurate information is another pain.


With, one doesn’t need to go through the hoops to make things happen.


Targeted at software developers, it aims to make the prospect of having an overseas employment much easier and simpler.


1. Please share with us briefly what you do.

I’m the founder and CEO of Relocate, a job relocation platform for software developers seeking long-term employment opportunities abroad. Apart from that, I lead two other projects – tech recruitment agency and GlossaryTech, our side educational project for recruiters in tech.


2. What were you doing before this?

I’ve been in tech recruitment in some form since 2008, combining roles in sales and management at the same time. Becoming a tech recruiter wasn’t a plan. Before that, I’d tried on different roles, from a software tester to an event organiser. I’ve been actively involved in relocating overseas talent for the last 5 years.


3. In one sentence, how would you describe what your product does?

Makes job relocation easier.


4. How did the idea for your business come about?

The platform was created following a full five years on the market as tech recruitment agency Since 2012, we've supported hundreds of developers across the world – from Australia to Sweden, Brazil to the Netherlands, France to the Czech Republic – in their job-seeker relocation efforts.

Our experience shows many technology companies, in spite of the commonality of relocation, don't put as great an emphasis on providing relocation assistance to candidates they hire from abroad. In addition, it is difficult for job seekers to find accurate information about relocation, especially from a single source.

The idea of Relocate is not only to provide developers with access to jobs that are open to foreign applicants, but also to provide them with tons of useful content about relocation and guaranteed relocation packages to accompany those jobs.


5. How does it work?

In December 2017, we launched a new version of the website. It displays job openings and useful information on ten different countries: Canada, Sweden, The U.S., Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore, The UK, Spain, Australia, and Ireland. So, if you aren't sure where to go, you can start by exploring the countries/cities we have on our platform. The information provided covers all major relocation issues:


  • Work visa requirements/work permit info
  • Steps/requirements to gain citizenship
  • Cost of living
  • Details on property rent/purchase
  • Health care, insurance
  • Kindergartens and schools
  • Obtaining a driver’s license
  • Moving with pets
  • Expat stories along with a list of expat communities in each country

After completing a short questionnaire, every job seeker receives customized relocation tips, based on their specific situation. In addition to that, they can make use of the salary calculators available for each of the countries listed on the site and project their post-relocation income.

Once you've selected your foreign destination, you'll have an opportunity to explore jobs and look into the relocation packages offered.


6. What are the key benefits that your product brings?

First of all this is tons of useful information about relocation along with guaranteed relocation packages.

As for the benefits for tech companies, Relocate isn't just a basic job board. We're following the best practices of both agencies and traditional job board businesses to bring a more advanced product to our users. We have a built-in pre-selection option, allowing both companies and job seekers to filter their prospective applicants/relevant job options and providing a more streamlined experience for both parties.

For those companies who have never dealt with employee relocation before, we're more than happy to relieve all of the relocation growing pains that can complicate the procedure.


7. Who are your closest competitors?

Stack Overflow is the main one. Jobbatical, TechMeAbroad and Jobspotting can be considered as Relocate’s close rivals too.


8. Who is your first customer and how did that happen?

Delivery Hero, Optiver, Catawiki, ING Bank, Coolblue, were among the many early adopters. With some of them, e.g. and CoolBlue, we earlier worked as a tech recruitment agency.


9. What were they using before this, and why did they switch?

That’s a great question. I know that lots of companies tried Stackoverflow earlier, also LinkedIn for posting jobs. I think it’s not really about switching from one job board to another, but rather exploring new/niche platforms they can use to find that right talent.

By posting job openings on the Relocate website, companies gain access to technical talent from 50+ countries, and all are ready to relocate.


10. How do you price your product?

Currently, we offer two pricing options: Pay per posting and Pay per hire.

The first one is perfect for companies trying to fill more than 3 open positions. This is a great option for those who’d like to expand their employer brand beyond their local market. The minimum subscription period is 2 months. The prices start at $530/mo. for 3 job slots.

Pay per hire is a much better option for tracking down those harder to find candidates and filling single vacancies. Comes with a 3 month guarantee period. You don’t pay until after the first working day of your new hire.

11. What’s your business focus for this year?

The platform currently has about 300 job opportunities listed. Consequently, the main focus will be made on adding new jobs. We're also determined to further expand into new countries, especially in Asia. We have already added Singapore as a location offered to job seekers and are now actively seeking local companies that are ready to hire from abroad.



Another helpful thing we want to provide our users with in 2018 is career services – resume review, job interview preparation to name a few. Stay tuned for our updates!


12. What is your favourite failure (and what did you learn from it)?

A lot of them, actually. For example, to start new ‘doings’/projects without having first analyzed the mistakes I made before and measure everything against myself.


13. What’s one productivity hack you would recommend to everyone?

I always try to plan my day twice a day. In the morning, when I’m fresh, I make my to-do list for the current day and do the same in the evening not to forget the tasks appeared during the day. It’s a lot better to keep track of all your daily tasks on paper (I love that feeling of crossing off completed tasks) rather than keep 100 things in your head at once.
