Studies have shown that the number 1 channel of good hires come from referral, 2nd would be recruitment companies.
It would make sense to scale the referrals of candidates via crowdsourcing from credible sources, providing employers with a good pool of talents that traditionally would not apply for the same job on any job boards.
Weesper provides that platform for companies to leverage on the power of network to find their pool of curated talents.
1. Please share with us briefly what you do.
I am a French entrepreneur living in Hong Kong for 6 years.
I have co-founded Weesper one year ago, a HR tech startup
2. What were you doing before this?
I have been working for 5 years as the Managing Director of an IT consulting company in Hong Kong. Previously I was a Project Manager in the asset Management industry.
3. In one sentence, how would you describe what your product does?
Weesper is an online talent referral platform that crowdsources top candidates for open jobs from a vetted community of industry experts.
4. How did the idea for your business come about?
I was disappointed and frustrated with the HR solutions available in the market. I felt stuck between job boards and traditional recruitment agencies. The former is only targeting active candidates and is very time consuming, the latter are often too expensive while LinkedIn didn’t solve my problem either.
5. How does it work?
What Weesper is offering is an innovative recruitment solution. On one Single platform, you can access a large number of recruiters and connected professionals who will source candidates for you and the recruitment process is automated creating a much more efficient system.
6. What are the key benefits that your product brings?
Weesper is a referral platform hence CVs are naturally screened by referrers and therefore you will only receive quality and relevant profiles, increasing the probability of meeting the right candidate and making the hire. Moreover, our referrers community allows our clients to reach passive candidates. Finally our business model offers a very competitive price compared to traditional recruitment agencies.
7. Who are your closest competitors?
I am not aware of direct competitors in Asia using a crowd-sourcing model for hiring. So I would say recruitment agencies would be our closest competitors
8. Who is your first customer and how did that happen?
Weesper had an incredible market response. In barely 2 months we already had 15 clients posting 26 open jobs and offering more then HKD500k reward on Weesper! Our first customers were mainly startups which immediately understood the added value of our service.
9. What were they using before this, and why did they switch?
Our clients were sharing the same frustration as I did with existing tools. Most of them were struggling on Job boards as they couldn’t afford to use recruitment agencies.
10. How do you price your product?
We also tried to innovate on this part. Our technology combined with our crowd-sourcing model means that we can dramatically reduce our operational cost hence allowing us to offer very competitive pricing to our clients. We have an unique reward based pricing policy.
Our clients define how much they want to allocate for each hire (between 5% and 30% of the candidate annual salary). Of course the higher the reward the higher chance that you will have a referral. You only pay on success after a 1 month guarantee period. So there is absolutely no risk in using Weesper for our customers.
11. What’s your business focus for this year?
Our objective is to prove our business model so that we can prepare our first fund raising early next year. We are hoping to reach our breakeven point sometime next year as well.
12. What’s one productivity tip/app/tool you can't live without?
I am a big fan of Zapier, an automation tool which connects different services together (Similar to IFTTT). You can connect your CRM to your Slack, to your calendar, newsletter system or thousands of other services and trigger actions based on events. If well used it could save your team a significant amount of time on operation and client support.
